Off the Beaten Path: Leaning Into the Wind
May 20, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm
The Latchis Theatre’s Off the Beaten Path Film Series continues this weekend with “Leaning Into the Wind,” an extraordinary documentary look at the work of sculptor, photographer and environmentalist Andy Goldsworthy. The film will be shown on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20, at 4 p.m.
Spanning 2013-2016, “Leaning Into the Wind” meanders, quite literally, off the beaten path to follow Goldsworthy on his exploration of the layers of his world and the impact of the years on himself and his art.
Released in March 2018, “Leaning Into the Wind” has dazzled critics, earning a 97% score on the film review site Rotten Tomatoes. “This movie is a feast. Peel your orbs and dig in,” wrote Lisa Jensen in Good Times Santa Cruz. Norman Wilner of NOW Toronto called it “a pleasant, eccentric wander through the artist’s undertakings around the world.
Goldsworthy’s life and work was previously chronicled in the 2002 film “Rivers and Tides.” “Leaning Into the Wind” picks up the story 16 years later, ready to win over new audiences.
“No matter how vivid your home setup might be, it’s best to see this in a theatre,” wrote Scott Marks of San Diego Reader.
“Leaning Into the Wind” is Rated PG and runs 93 minutes.
Off the Beaten Path continues on Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27 with “Mary and the Witch’s Flower,” the latest animated masterpiece from the creative minds nurtured by Studio Ghibli.
