This award-winning\, cinematically beautiful documentary captures the emotional\, psychological and physical challenges faced by Erik as he kayaks the Colorado River through the ancient landscape. \nThe film will be shown with audio description mixed with the soundtrack to give visually-impaired guests a film experience free of headphones and special technology\, and sighted patrons an immersive experience in how a film is accessed\, experienced and understood by a person with a visual impairment. DESCRIPTION:Latchis Arts’ popular Exhibition on Screen series returns on Saturday and Sunday\, March 14 and 15\, at 4 p.m.\, with “Lucian Freud: A Self Portrait” at the Latchis Theatre\, 50 Main St. \nThis pioneering series of cinematic films about exhibitions\, galleries and artists takes an intensely compelling look at the life of a modern master through a unique exhibition of his self-portraits at the Royal Academy of Arts. Freud made self-portraits for the whole of his life\, which intersected his controversial private life and reflected his shifting relationship with paint. \nNotoriety followed the grandson of Sigmund Freud: he was a key figure in London’s radical post-war art scene. His intense and unflinching gaze has produced a body of powerful figurative work that places him at the forefront of great British painting. The film journeys through this landmark exhibition in which Freud turns his critical eye squarely on himself. \nIn collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston\, the Royal Academy of Arts’ extraordinary exhibit displays more than 50 paintings\, prints and drawings spanning nearly seven decades of Freud’s self-portraiture. They give a fascinating insight into both his psyche and his development as a painter from his earliest portrait\, painted about the time the Latchis Theatre first opened to the final one\, executed in 2003. When seen together his portraits represent an engrossing study into the dynamic of aging and the process of self-representation. \n“Lucian Freud: A Self Portrait” features interviews with past sitters\, friends and leading art experts. DESCRIPTION:The Brattleboro Concert Choir opens the New Year with two concerts exploring “The Fall and The Rise: Songs of Redemption\,” presenting a redemption story in two parts: Adam’s Lament by Arvo Pärt is “The Fall\,” and Dreamweaver by Ola Gjeilo is “The Rise.” \nThe concerts are scheduled for Saturday\, Jan. 18\, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday\, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. at the Latchis Theatre\, Main Street\, Brattleboro. For tickets\, visit www.bmcvt.org \nEstonian composer Arvo Pärt composed Adam’s Lament in 2009. The piece is a setting of a haunting Church Slavonic text by Russian Eastern Orthodox monk Saint Silouan. It is a stark exploration of the biblical Adam’s grief and pain at being cast out of Eden\, and then seeing his son\, Abel\, murdered by his other son\, Cain.  From that “Fall\,” the program proceeds to a “Rise” from the afterlife. Contemporary Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo’s 2017 piece Dreamweaver is an English retelling of a medieval Norwegian epic poem. \n

SUMMARY:Movies for Kids: Eeek! Movies that Feature Heroic Mice
DESCRIPTION:Latchis Arts’ popular Movies for Kids series returns in January with a series titled Eeeek! – featuring movies where mice are the heroes. Films take place at the Latchis Theatre on Sundays at 11:30 a.m. Admission is by donation. \nOn Jan. 19\, the series continues with “Stuart Little\,” the beloved tale of a plucky mouse raised in New York by a human family. Released in 1999 and rated PG for brief language\, the film stars Michael J. Fox\, Geena Davis and Hugh Laurie. Common Sense Media says it’s appropriate for ages 7 and up\, praising it as generally sweet and fun with some scary moments. \nJanuary’s Eeek! Series concludes on Jan. 26\, with “An American Tail\,” the exquisitely G-rated animated 1986 film about a family of Russian-Jewish mice who escape from their homeland to make a new life in New York City. Common Sense Media rates it appropriate for ages 5 and up\, praising it as a great introduction for kids to the issue of immigration. It gets high marks for educational value and positive role models\, with some moments of scariness. \nLatchis Arts’ Movies for Kids series was created by board member Jonathan Schwartz\, who passed away in 2018. The intent is to present quality films for all families to enjoy\, without cost as a barrier to access. In its first three years\, more than 3\,000 people have attended series offerings\, including many young people for whom it is their first movie experience in a theater. \nLatchis Arts Movies for Kids series films continue on Sunday mornings through March. SUMMARY:Brattleboro Concert Choir: The Fall and the Rise
DESCRIPTION:The Brattleboro Concert Choir opens the New Year with two concerts exploring “The Fall and The Rise: Songs of Redemption\,” presenting a redemption story in two parts: Adam’s Lament by Arvo Pärt is “The Fall\,” and Dreamweaver by Ola Gjeilo is “The Rise.” \nThe concerts are scheduled for Saturday\, Jan. 18\, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday\, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. at the Latchis Theatre\, Main Street\, Brattleboro. Tickets are $18 general admission in advance or $20 at the door. Youth admission is $10\, with children under 13 admitted free. For tickets\, visit www.bmcvt.org \nEstonian composer Arvo Pärt composed Adam’s Lament in 2009. The piece is a setting of a haunting Church Slavonic text by Russian Eastern Orthodox monk Saint Silouan. It is a stark exploration of the biblical Adam’s grief and pain at being cast out of Eden\, and then seeing his son\, Abel\, murdered by his other son\, Cain.  From that “Fall\,” the program proceeds to a “Rise” from the afterlife. Contemporary Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo’s 2017 piece Dreamweaver is an English retelling of a medieval Norwegian epic poem. \n
