13th – film and discussion

Windham Votes will host a screening of the Netflix original documentary 13th, followed by a discussion on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 4:30 p.m., at the Latchis Theatre. Admission is free.
Filmmaker Ava DuVernay examines the history of racial inequality in the United States, focusing on the fact that the nation’s prisons are disproportionately filled with African-Americans.
The screening will be followed by a discussion moderated by Steffen Gillom, co-founder and president of Windham County NAACP, and including Vermont Rep. Nader Hashim and Mel Motel, director of the Brattleboro Community Justice Center.
