I, Claude Monet

August 18, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Latchis Arts’ Exhibition on Screen, a popular program for visual art-lovers and anyone interested in compelling documentary programming about artists and their work, returns on Saturday and Sunday, August 18 and 19, at 4 p.m., with a reprise of “I, Claude Monet.”

“I, Claude Monet” offers a fresh look at the great painter based entirely on his personal letters. Disposing on traditional narration and talking heads, “I, Claude Monet” allows Monet to tell his story in his own words. Based on 3,000 surviving letters, the film reveals a tumultuous inner life marked by moments of intense depression and euphoric creation. “I, Claude Monet” also features more than 100 of Monet’s paintings filmed in high-definition, providing a unique window into his emotional and creative life. The film also features little-know correspondence with fellow impressionists Bazille, Manet and Pisarro, and fiery eschanges with his dealer Paul Durand-Ruel, revealing Monet’s conflicted relationship with the art world.

“I, Claude Monet” was originally shown at the Latchis in February 2017, and was a popular program in the Exhibition on Screen series. The Latchis’ third season of showing Exhibition on Screen programs begins on November 17 and 18, with a focus on Degas, followed by programs in February (Young Picasso), April (Rembrandt) and August (Van Gogh & Japan).

Admission is $12, $6 for students, available at the door.
