National Theatre Live: Frankenstein
October 27, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm
The Latchis Theatre launches its 2019-20 season of National Theatre Live presentations by reprising, just in time for Halloween, “Frankenstein,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, on Sunday, October 27, at 4 p.m.
Academy Award-winner Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire) directs this production, captured live in 2011 from the National Theatre live stage. Nick Dear wrote the play, based on the novel by Mary Shelley. In the National Theatre Live production, Cumberbatch and Miller alternated performances in the roles of Victor Frankenstein and his creation. The version the Latchis will show features Miller as the Creature and Cumberbatch as Victor.
Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck creator. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the increasingly desperate and vengeful Creature determines to track down his creatorand strike a terrifying deal.
Scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic tale.
“Frankenstein” contains a scene of sexual violence and his recommended for ages 15 and up.
Tickets are $20 for general admission, $10 for students. Contact Jon Potter for questions and advance credit card purchases at jon@latchisarts.org or 802-254-1109, ext. 3. For more information, visit latchisarts.org.
