Leonardo: The Works

December 8, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Latchis Arts offers an unprecedented look at one of the world’s most celebrated artists, Leonardo DaVinci, when the popular Exhibition on Screen series returns with “Leonardo: The Works” on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8, at 4 p.m., at the Latchis Theatre, 50 main St., Brattleboro.

“Leonardo: The Works” is part of a global celebration marking the 500th anniversary of the artist’s death. Tickets are $12, $6 for students, available at the door. For information, visit latchisarts.org or contact Jon Potter at 802-254-1109, ext. 3 or jon@latchisarts.org.

Many films have showcased the genius of Leonardo, but none have ever examined in such detail the most crucial element of all: his art. Leonardo’ peerless paintings are at the core of “Leonardo: The Works,” which presents every painting attributed to Leonardo, offering unparalleled access for the first time. Viewers will marvel at masterpieces such as “The Last Supper,” “Lady with an Ermine,” “Ginevra de’ Benci,” “Madonaa Litta,” “Virgin of the Rocks” and the “Mona Lisa.”

“Leonardo: The Works” also looks afresh at Leonardo’s life through the prism of his art, threading biography and artistic output together, with the assistance of the world’s foremost curators, critics and historians.

Writer and director Phil Grabsky traveled to eight countries to film virtually all attributed Leonardo works. The film includes the much-discussed ‘Salvator Mundi,” which the filmmakers believe is a Leonardo work, the recently restored “Adoration of the Magi” and, shown for the first time since its conservation, the “Lansdowne Madonna.” It also offers privileged access to the “Mona Lisa.”
