To Live: Films by Putney School students from China

January 31, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Latchis Theatre is proud to host “To Live,” an evening of short films by four Chinese students at The Putney School who are members of the award-winning ET8 Studio, on Friday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m.

The evening will feature five short feature films (mostly 2 to 4 minutes, with one 13-minute documentary) by four student members of ET8 Studios at The Putney School – Shangyou Li, Xiuyuan Chen, Shixue Shao and Zirui Liu. There will be an opportunity for conversation after the screenings, and the filmmakers will have merchandise for sale.

Admission is by suggested donation of $8.

In the spring of 2018, three teens from China established ET8 Studio at The Putney School out of a shared passion for cinematic art and an ambition to reshape the Western world’s image of China.

“After coming to the U.S., we found that even in the era of the Internet, the Western and Eastern worlds still hold numerous biased and inaccurate perceptions toward each other. As international students and new generation artists, we feel obliged to address this problem and bridge this gap. Our current mission is to present Chinese culture, values and social issues through the form of film, from which audiences around the globe can appreciate the beauty of China and understand the challenges it faces.”

ET8 Studio films have won awards, including First Place in the 2019 Vermont Freedom and Unity Film Contest, and being named Official Selections of the Indie Short Festival and the Wasteland Film Festival.
