National Theatre: Live in HD – Julie
April 6, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Wild and newly single, Julie throws herself a late-night birthday party …
So begins the intro to “Julie,” the a shocking and fiercely relevant new version of August Strindberg’s play, which will be shown at the Latchis Theatre on Saturday, April 6, at 4 p.m., as part of the series of National Theatre Live in HD presentations.
What begins as Julie’s birthday party descends into a savage fight for escape and ultimately survival, as Julie initiates a power game after finding Jean and Kristina in the kitchen cleaning up while the celebration heaves around them.
The result is a production which earned critical acclaim as “provocative and profound,” “stylish,” “superlative.” The Mail on Sunday write that it “packs an emotional punch.” Vanessa Kirby, who audiences may know as Princess Margaret from the hit Netflix series The Crown, stars as Julie.
Eric Kofi Abrefa stars as Jean, and Thalissa Teixeira is Kristina in this new version of August Strindberg’s “Miss Julie,” written by Polly Stenham. Carrie Cracknell directs. Running time is a taut 95 minutes, with no intermission.
Audiences are advised: This production contains strong language, scenes of a sexual nature and strobe lighting.
Tickets are $20 for general admission, $10 for students. Contact Jon Potter for questions and advance credit card purchases at jon@latchisarts.org or 802-254-1109, ext. 3. For more information, visit latchisarts.org.
